I’ve been a bit slow to follow up on part two of the Third Edition of Recommended Yarn. Better late than never.

If you haven’t seen the recommended yarn posts before the theme is to look at designs that have been written exactly for the yarns that we stock. We are often asked to substitute yarns for patterns but for these you don’t have to. Choose your favourite and knit them up as written. You can catch up with the Recommended Yarn posts here: First Edition Part One and Part Two, Second Edition Part One and Part Two. With this post like the others I have just looked at what is new. There are constantly new designs being published so this post looks at the designs published between the Second Edition and now. There is a lot to fit in this blog post so I have split it into two again, all pattern links link to Ravelry.com.

Lakeshore Mitts by Rachel Wolfe. Speedy mitts are great for gift knitting and Vivacious DK is perfect. Soft but strong and you could get two pairs out of one skein, a pair for you and a pair for a friend. The ribbed design makes them grip well and the simple cable adds a touch of style.

Fyberspates Vivacious DK I love Vivacious, the colours are so lovely. Hand dyed variegated yarns on a soft superwash merino base.

Growth Point Shawl by Meiju Kallio. This graphic little shawl uses tuck stitches to create this checkerboard design that looks like brickwork. Knit from the left point to the longest edged and using just two skeins of Preseli in contrasting colours.

Garthenor Preseli is made from 100% Organic Wool sourced from British breeds.

Love Story Shawl by Hélène Magnússon. This impressive airy shawl features a simple lace repeat that focuses on the beauty of the yarn itself. Knit with just one strand of Love Story and switching to holding two strands together at different sections to blend and marl the colours together. All you need is one ball in five different colours.

Love Story Einband is a single ply cobweb lace weight yarn made from Icelandic lambswool coming in a stunning range of colours.

Red Panda Socks by Asita Krebs. A bold geometric colourwork band runs around the top of these socks that are knit from the top down and have short row heels. A simple but quite effective colourwork project. All you need is one skein of each colour.

John Arbon Yarnadelic Sport takes its inspiration from music and is created by blending pre dyed fibre resulting in a yarn that has a depth of colour.

Plymouth Gin Hat by Thea Colman. Hats are perfect one skin projects and this one is alive with cables. Curving and intertwining elegantly from brim to crown.

John Arbon Yarnadelic Worsted this yarn has exactly the same properties as the sport weight but in a heavier worsted.

Irish Gold by Joji Locatelli. This simple cardigan is all about the luxury yarn it is knit in. Lace bands run down and elevate this elegant design. Depending on the size you will need between three and five skeins.

Norne Yarn BFL/Silk/Cashmere Fingering. This fibre blend beautifully compliments Norne Yarn’s colour palette inspired by Norse Mythology, combining the deepest of hues with a lush softness and shine. 

Shieldmaiden by Julie Knits in Paris. The Shieldmaiden Shawl was created especially to introduce Norne Yarn’s two latest bases, Luxury Cloud (42% Baby Alpaca, 35% Silk, 13% non-superwash Fine Merino and 10% Yak) and Luxury Fingering (50% Yak and 50% Silk), with a one-skein-of-each challenge in mind. Featuring graphic eyelet lines exploring different directions in each section. We love it so much we have kits available.

Mazurka by Becci Pamely-Bast. Mazurka is knit in a combination of two colours of Chimera paired with a solid. The rippling texture of the design is created through a combination of slip-stitch cables which is heightened by the beautiful marling of the Chimera. We have put kits together for this design pairing Chimera with Black Elephant Wensleydale.

The Blue Bird by Ronja Hakalehto A lovely traditional Finnish style cardigan by Ronja Hakaletho. She found inspiration for the beautiful colourwork pattern from a Finnish design company Tapettitehdas and their Lintu Sininen Wall paper. Lintu Sininen means Blue Bird in Fininsh. This one also piqued our interest and we have kits available.
