It seems like a long time ago since we launched Norne Yarn at Unravel in March. At the time we had two bases – Merino, Silk, Yak Singles and Merino, Silk, Yak DK. We were won over by the rich and vibrant colours of Tuva’s. Her colours are inspired by Norse Mythology and are all hand dyed in Norway. They are vibrant and deep and full of mystery.
We’ve been in awe of them ever since then, so we are really excited to introduce two more yarns: Norne Yarn BFL Mini Hank Set and BFL / Silk / Cashmere Fingering.
First up we have these two cute Mini Hank sets. Featuring a complementary gradient of colours in warm reds and oranges (Brisingamen) and cool greys (Tussmørke). The colour Brisingamen comes from a necklace owned by Freyja. It was forged by the four dwarves Alvrigg, Dvalin, Berling and Grerr. One of the many possible interpretations of the name Brisingamen, is ‘the fire necklace’. Tussmørke is a Norwegian word for the special light of the long northern twilight. These sets consist of 5 x 20g high twist 100% Bluefaced Leister yarn. A soft but strong yarn with an even twist. Ideal for sock projects as well as everything in between. Great for adding a little gradient accent to the edge of projects or use in colourwork paired with a contrast colour.
If you are looking for some fun inspiration for what to make with these I have put together a few projects.
Moonlight Socks by Joji Locatelli. These gradient socks are designed specifically for the Mini Hank sets. Created by striping between colours to give an even blended effect. They feature a pretty front lace panel, showcasing this yarns definition. These socks are worked top down in the round with a heel flap and gusset.
Adventurer Cowl by Ambah O’Brien. This simple cowl is a fun way to use mini skins and the length can be customised to be long or short. The chevron design makes stripes more dynamic and is offset by fun eyelet rows.
Snap by tincanknits. A great way of combining colours is by marling them. Create the perfect blend between these hank sets with this design.
Next up are these beautiful BFL / Silk / Cashmere Fingering skeins. A soft and luxurious yarn with a sturdy twist. This yarn is crisp and soft at the same time and its blend gives it the most wonderful glow. The colours are rich and deep. This yarn would give you great definition and is ideal for a multitude of projects. From soft inviting cable jumpers to sumptuous shawls.
Gokstad Hat by Julie Knits in Paris. This Viking inspired design features some fun complicated cables, reminiscent of the bold woodwork of a Viking ship. Designed for BFL / Silk / Cashmere Fingering it really shows off the cabled design. Whats more is it will feel great against the skin.
Courage Wrap by Erin Kurup. This beautifully all over textural wrap would be absolutely stunning knit in Norne Yarn. Its lace repeat is modern and crisp and not overly fussy. Starting as a triangle it moves into a big, enveloping bias-knit rectangle.
Blossom by Megumi Sawada. I really like the large twisted rib details on this jumper. With a relaxed neckline and a comfortable fit it needs a comfortable yarn and with BFL / Silk / Cashmere Fingering the rib will really pop.
