What Goes Into Our Protective Scent Bags

… and how does it work?

It’s been a couple of weeks since we launched our KWA Protective Scent Bags, the reception has been nothing but mind-blowing, so what better occasion than now to look closer at what they are and how hey work.

First thing first, as with several of our KWA bags our beautiful cotton drawstring bag is labelled with Bags of Ethics™, made in a factory in India that 100% owns their own fully transparent supply chain:

  • All merchandise will be produced using either certified organic, upcycled, recycled or deadstock material.
  • The inks used will be REACH compliant (non-toxic dyes). All items will be reusable at least 500+ times.
  • Vegan certified.
  • No single-use plastic packaging or items.
  • Made with love by a 90% female workforce.
  • Tree planting programme at the factory to support carbon footprint.
  • Water effluent system to harvest water and use for watering plants.

Then it is the question of what do we fill them up with, and why, while we as humans simply adore this combination of scents, moths find it absolutely appalling. Our unique blend of Cedar Wood Chip and dried Lavender is a non-toxic and natural moth repellent due to its strong, distinctive scent, which disrupt the moths’ ability to detect food sources and their own pheromones. We use Organic Lavender from a small co-operative of growers in France, and the Cedar Wood Chip is kiln dried timber off cuts from a UK sawmill.

Cedar, particularly the oil, contains compounds like cedrol that have a strong, camphor-like smell. This scent masks the scent of keratin, a protein found in clothing, which is a food source for moth larvae. By masking this scent, cedar wood makes it harder for moths to locate suitable areas to lay their eggs.

Lavender contains various aromatic compounds, including linalool and linalyl acetate, which contribute to its distinctive scent. This scent is also disliked by moths and disrupts their ability to detect pheromones, which are used for communication and finding mates. By disrupting these signals, lavender makes it more difficult for moths to navigate and reproduce.

Such a powerful combo right?! Pop our KWA Protective Scent Bag in your drawers, or hang in your wardrobe, it will keep those dreaded moths away, while leaving your garments protected and smelling deliciously fresh. Each bag should last you for at least three months, if the scent becomes less potent, give the bag a squeeze to crush up the ingredients and refresh the scents.

Finally, we know you love them – so how could we not create a bundle for this purpose as well? Our KWA Care Bundle gathers those essentials for taking care of both current projects and future FOs – with a flair! Presented to you with a neat little bundled discount as well.
