Inspiration for Ooey Gooey by Andrea Mowry

Every year Andrea Mowry creates a design in preparation for the Rhinebeck Wool Festival, one of the world’s largest annual wool gatherings. Her 2025 design is the Ooey Gooey sweater!

Andrea says the inspiration for this sweater began with a beautiful modern rug with undulating curves. She began drawing up some colorwork charts, and immediately fell in love with the organic, bold shape of the yoke. After knitting through the first chart, Andrea was inspired to add some perfectly round polka dots, and the jammy colors and drippy motif just had her thinking “ooey gooey” as she was knitting – hence its name!

The Ooey Gooey sweater is worked from the top down, seamlessly. The sleeve stitches are put on hold while the body is finished, then to pick up those stitches again and complete the sleeves.

We have a kit option now and we have recommended the stunning Hillesvåg Tinde. Spun from fibre from the Norwegian pelssau breed. A norwegian peltwool fibre that is a cross breed between Gotland and the Norwegian heritage breed Spælsau. The wool is a natural grey colour with beautiful curl and shine. This grey fibre is then dyed to produce a great depth of rich colour with the grey running through it. The richness of the colour is this yarn’s great strength and it’s the perfect choice for colour work.

Stuck with what colours to choose, see below for some inspiration. As with all colourwork the biggest difference between light and dark shades will give you a more defined design.
