Inspiration for Flea Sweater

We often get a lot of requests for how the Flea Sweater might look in different colour combos. I’ve attempted to work a little photoshop magic to give you some ideas.

The Flea Sweater takes six different colours of the beautiful Pickles Pure Wool. Pure Wool is a worsted spun 4ply weight yarn, that comes in a fabulous palette of heathered shades. It is hard to narrow it down! But my advice to get the best contrast and the most out of the colourwork is to choose three dark shades and three light shades. All the colours are beautiful and I have seen some stunning versions but look below if you want some inspiration.

I’m thinking reds, pinks, maybe with dark green and grey. Undergoing breast cancer treatment at the moment and this sweater appeals as an interesting yet mindful project. Would this work? Other than this I like the one with rust, navy, grey, white, beige, dark green. Wondering is it would work with a lime instead of white?

Hi Kathleen. Thank you so much for your message. The mindfulness we find in knitting is a great comfort and I think the mix of the stripes and simple colourwork is perfect for being both engaging but also simple and meditative. The Flea is knit in the Pure Wool and we don’t currently stock a pink so I had a little rummage around and think the Hillesvåg Sølje would also be a great option for this.Flea Sweater
I did a little mock up featuring the colours: Olivegrønn, Rosa, Mørk Rossa, Rød, Naturgrå and Vilje. I think it has a good mix of darks and lights that should work well. I hope this helps you visualise the combination and I wish you all the best.

Lovely jumpers. Could you please tell me if the Pickles Pure wool does not pill over time?

Also please name other brands you may know that are resilient to pilling.

      Hi Martine

Well the general rule is the softer the yarn, the more it will pill. Pilling has also much more to do with how you wear your garments rather than the yarn itself. I’m excited to let you know though that Pickles Pure Wool is one of those yarns that are spun so beautifully it actually doesn’t pill.
      Hope this was of help.
