Summer heat is inspiring us at the moment in Laine’s summer issue. Light and relaxed garments featuring a variety of textures and techniques all photographed in the quiet beauty of a Finish summer.

Laine Issue 25 features knitwear by twelve different designers : Audrey Borrego, Antonio Jesús Castillo Urquízar, Lindsey Fowler, Sus Gepard, Maria Gomes, Kaori Katsurada, Linda Lencovic, Lotta H Löthgren, Marina Storm, Maaike van Geijn, Imke von Nathusius and Marie-Ève Wedge. Designs include everything from jumpers to socks with an emphasis on lighter more relaxed fits for the warmer months. Also inside are the usual interviews, articles and recipes. It releases on the 16th May so lets get prepared and look at the designs inside and possible yarn pairings from the shelves of Knit With Attitude.

Bleuet by Audrey Borrego. This light lace scarf is trapezoidal in shape. Worked from tip to tip it alternates texture with a striking lace section in the middle. This is knit in a fine hemp yarn but purely because the colour Sea Glass is calling to me I would try this in Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply.

Diănxīn by Kaori Katsurada. This cropped cardigan has short puffy sleeves adding to the light summery feel. Knit from the top down towards a ruffled hem. Button bands as well as the sleeves are picked up and knit from the body. Knit holding two strands of a sport weight together I wonder if just one strand of the Pickles Tjukk would be a good light alternative.

Doezel by Maaike van Geijn. Little neckerchiefs are really having there time right now and I love them. They look so cute tied at your neck. This one is triangular and makes great use of combining different fibres. It is knit in a fluffy yarn combined with different contrast colours. Of course it has to be Fyberspates Cumulus for the fluff and then for the other bits I would dive into the last remaining precious hanks of G-uld No4 Minis before they are all gone.

Francisca by Antonio Jesús Castillo Urquízar. This top pairs delicate cables and lace with a simple airy shape. Knit from the top down with a classic round neck, the cables go right up to the armhole edge giving it an almost picot look. I like that the cables finish off the hem edge as well. I think this would be stunning in Fyberspates Scrumptious 4ply.

Gemstone by Lotta H Löthgren. I love this design as Lotta has made it for spinners to incorporate their precious hand spun yarn even if their gauge is not exact. Using mosaic knitting and incorporating your hand spun as the contrast colour. Using a neutral background colour as a base sets off any colour you choose as a contrast to create a unique triangular shawl. You are aiming roughly for a DK weight. So if you are not a spinner try Hillesvåg Tinde and Sol instead.

Glow by Imke von Nathusius. This casual drop shoulder jumper is given a twist with a simple lace repeat that is then broken up by panels of stocking stitch. Knit from the top down, it even features a quirky row of bobbles at the hem edge. A nice crisp wool would be good for this like Pickles Pure Wool.

Ice Cream by Maria Gomes. This light as air cardigan is knit in just one strand of a fluffy lace weight yarn. With an all over texture to give interest to this classic shape and to be worn with positive ease. The oh so soft Fyberspates Cumulus is ideal for this.

Kallos by Marina Storm. This summery top has an interesting construction. Knit from the bottom up in plain stocking stitch and then incorporating a v-neck shape at the front. At the end the lace panel is worked which stretches around the body and over the shoulders. I’m wondering if the summery nettle combo of Allo Baby would be good here.

Lumino by Linda Lencovic. This classic raglan jumper highlights the raglan details in a fun way. Knit by holding two strands of yarn together and then just a single strand is used to create the lines at the raglan edge and side seams. Knit by holding a fluffy yarn with a 4ply I would try a combo of Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply and Fyberspates Cumulus.

Orma by Marie-Eve Wedge. This relaxed cardigan features an all over textured repeat. It is knit seamlessly from the top down and I particularly like the deep double rib. A yarn with good stitch definition like Fyberspates Botanical 4ply would be great.

Sea by Sus Gepard. This classic oversized t-shirt inspired design uses a textured yarn to heighten the simple shape. Worked from the bottom up and in the round. It is finished with a sewn chain stitch to add a touch of colour at the edges. I would try the fun Allo Baby Crimp for this.

Shoaling by Lindsey Fowler. These cuff down socks start with a twisted rib and have a classic heel flap and gusset construction. A two colour textured stitch runs around the leg and a small echo of that appears at the toe. For socks it has to be Socks Yeah!
