New Yarn – Pickles Big Fuzz

Big Fuzz a chunky mohair – yes you read that right – A. CHUNKY. MOHAIR.

A huge favourite amongst ‘fibre folks’, Mohair is known for being warm and cosy, but unlike sheep fibre added warmth does not mean added bulk. Mohair is an incredibly light weight fibre, wrapped up in it feels like you are literarily wearing the weight of a feather. Why?
Air = Warmth
Mohair is a luxury fibre that comes from the hair of Angora goats. It’s often blended with other fibres, such as wool, silk or a small portion of synthetics, to bind the long slippery fibres and to create a variety of textures and effects.
Mohair fibres are hollow, which creates air pockets inside the fibre, further to this Mohair has also fewer, flatter scales than wool fibres, which allows the fibres to grip each other less – which again traps more air between the fibres.

Pickles Big Fuzz is a chunky yarn which is quite uncommon coming to Angora. You’re probably more used to the standard lace weight, where you find the thin core but when knitting the yarn on a medium sized needle, or even held together with another carrying yarn, you’ll see that the long Mohair fibres fill in the gaps in and between the stitches. Big Fuzz has a fibre composition of 78% Mohair, 15% Wool and 7% Nylon, the core not far off in thickness from what you might be used to, but it binds much longer fibres which gives the chunky classification, more fluff to fill in larger gaps.

No need for doubling your strands or carrying a carrying yarn, unless you really want to of course as everything is allowed … but yeah Big Fuzz can be worked on its own over a multitude of needle sizes. Pickles Big Fuzz will have you finishing those woolly hugs in exquisite Mohair in no time! Big Fuzz is lightweight, incredibly soft, doesn’t pill nor sheds and will work up to a garment that keeps its shape without sagging, even if you knit it loosely on gigantic needles.

Leopard Coat

In my humble opinion you can never have enough animal prints in your wardrobe, and who can resist a good Leopard one? Who can resist a cosy and soft cardigan? Put the two together and you have a sure winner guaranteeing comforting woolly hugs! The Leopard Coat is as practical as it is lush – throw it over a tee shielding the nip in the air, or layer it up under your winter coat for that toasty feeling even on a freezing day.

No Biggie Sweater

A fun sweater project that you will finish in a day or two with instant gratification. The No Biggie Sweater is worked bottom up with added length to the back, featuring a deep flattering V-neck and an oversized fit. This is your new grab-and-throw-on for any occasion favourite!

What the Fuzz

A fluffy hug of a sweater that will keep you cosied up, so light weight it can easily be layered up and so soft it can easily be worn directly onto the most sensitive of bare skin. Displaying a gorgeous texture, the What the Fuzz Sweater is worked bottom up in reversed Stockinette Stitch with simple knit stitch cables running vertically across the body.

Crazy Coat or Bomber Jacket

A statement piece which is just as fun to make as it is to wear. Both the Crazy Bomber and the Crazy Coat are worked top down in front and back pieces which are then assembled, before picking up stitches to complete the sleeves.. As you are working with only three colours at the time it is a wonderful introduction to Intarsia, and you’ll be mastering this fun technique like a pro by the time you’ve completed your project.

Norwegian Wood Sweater

An everyday sweater that features a striking graphic stitch pattern inspired by the Norwegian pine forests. Knitting the Norwegian Wood Sweater you’ll only work with one colour at the time – this sweater is deceptively simple to make but will turn heads for sure! The body is worked bottom up, before stitches are picked up to complete the sleeves.

Xania Sweater Dress

A super-chunky and squishy sweater dress, which is so light weight you feel like you’re wearing a feather. The Xania is Made in Pickles Tjukk Merino and Big Fuzz held together, you’ll achieve a fibrous dream, that will hold its beautiful shape, and that you’ll never want to take off.
