Do you also get an idea of what you want to knit and once that idea is implanted you cannot shake it? Even if you have a queue of projects a mile long, with yarn to knit them. Well this has happened to me this week and I am having to be very disciplined in trying to resist.
I’m being particularly drawn to the idea of combining 100g/200g of Fyberspates Vivacious Botanical with 50g of Socks Yeah. These yarns come in both a 4ply and a DK so there is something to match for both weights. I love variegated yarns paired with solid ones so these two as a combo should work perfectly.
I’ve picked out a few projects in both DK and 4ply and some colour combinations that I am really loving, so read on for some inspiration.
A l’aurore by Laura ROCHE-MARTIN. This DK shawl is simple but a pleasing shape and a great use of colour. Starting at the middle top and increasing to the widest edge the main part is knit in garter stitch. The border is created with mosaic knitting giving you a fun play between the two colours. With two size options both sizes would take two skeins of Vivacious Botanical DK for the MC and either one or three skeins of Socks Yeah DK for the contrast.

Tangram Adventure Shawl by Camilla Berg. This cute little shawlette is a great project for learning intarsia. Almost like and intarsia sampler with lots of different confetti like shapes. Knit from tip to tip and increasing and decreasing to create a long elongated triangle shape. To knit it you will need just one skien of Vivacious Botanical DK and one skein of Socks Yeah DK.
Colours on the left are: Fyberspates Vivacious Botanical DK in Evernia and Socks Yeah DK in Chiron.
Pimpom Shawl by Laura Penrose. This simple shawl is fun and bold. Knit in garter stitch and increasing to the widest part and finished with a scalloped edge that is achieved with short rows. I also like the bobbles that sit on the border between the two colours. This design is written for two strands of 4ply held together but you could also use just one strand of a DK.
Colours on the left are: Fyberspates Vivacious Botanical DK in Elephant and Socks Yeah DK in Moselle.
Sillyheart Shawl by Kelly McClure. The graphic lace design features simple yarn overs to create a bold triangular shape. Knit from the point to the widest end. This is edged in a contrast colour that is knit on to create a cute sawtooth detail. All you need is one skein of yarn and a little bit of leftover stash for the contrast.
Colours on the left are: Fyberspates Vivacious Botanical 4ply in Burnt Toffee and Socks Yeah in Malachite.
Leftie by Martina Behm. This shawl is made for contrasts and is designed to use up leftovers and you can do the stripes in as many colours as you have available. Starting from the small tip you can knit this shawl in any length you prefer. Knit in a 4ply the stripes only take about 35g of yarn altogether.
Colours on the left are: Fyberspates Vivacious Botanical 4ply in Champagne Forest and Socks Yeah in Acinolite.
Triagonal Shawlette by Ambah O’Brien. This versatile little scarf can be knit with any number of colours. I really like that its knit on the bias to you can achieve an attractive chevron by just changing colour. An adaptable pattern that can be knit in either a DK or 4ply just by changing the needle size.
Colours on the left are: Fyberspates Vivacious Botanical 4ply in Rhubarb Ginger and Socks Yeah in Xenon.
