Springtime has got me dreaming of flowers. Blossoms on the trees, daffodils popping up in the borders and even my tulips are starting to peek their heads up out of the ground, waiting to give me a vibrant display. So all this flower potential in spring has got me thinking of yarns that take their colour names and inspiration from flowers.

Below is a list of yarns with flowery names that take their colour cues from the flowers they are named after.

Spring Mittens (link to Ravelry) by Amanda Sund. These mittens are full of the joys of spring with a sweet little daisy motif that runs across the entire front. A different but complimentary geometric pattern runs across the palm. I like the one daisy at the finger tips that echoes the front. Worked in the round from the cuff to the finger tips. I would choose a combination of the white Hillesvåg Vilje and the dyed Hillesvåg Sølje for these.

Field of Sunflowers sock set (link to Ravelry) by Stone Knits. This pattern contains two stranded colour work sock designs in a cheery sunflower design. Perfect for preparing for summer or to wear in spring while dreaming of warm days. Both are worked from the top down. Socks Yeah 4ply would be my choice for these.

Pressed Flowers Hat (link to Ravelry) by Amy Christoffers. I couldn’t do a flower blog post without mentioning one of Amy Christoffer’s pressed flower designs. I love this motif especially on this hat. Worked from the bottom up and in the round. Its knit in a sport weight and I think I would go for the Fibre Co Amble which is technically a 4ply but I think it’s plumpness means it could almost pass for a sport.

Alyssum sweater (link to Ravelry) by Tomomi Yoshimoto. I had to include one of Tomomi Yoshimoto’s designs as well. These bold colour work design just say spring to me. Worked from the top down this yoked sweater is dense with flowers. Knit in a DK I would choose Hillesvåg Sol for the white flowers then almost any colour of Hillesvåg Tinde for the background would work.
