I’m really excited about spring, it’s starting to feel just a little bit warmer. Which means I have moved from the heaviest jumpers to braving a sleeveless tank top when I come to work (over a shirt that is, I’m not quite ready for short sleeves yet!). My knitwear is migrating into a more spring like feel and I’m pleased to be wearing some of my lighter neglected knits. Also the longer days are improving my mood to no end, isn’t it nice to finish work and it still be light. But this air of fresh optimism has got me in the mood to tidy and organise. It is time to do some spring cleaning and this of course doesn’t mean just your house. Those little areas that get forgotten, like your notions and tools collection. Mine seem to migrate around and end up down the sofa, on my bedside table or hiding in a once used project bag. So every now and then I gather them all up and sort them out. Now seems like the perfect time. My boyfriend often laughs at me because I have to have a case for everything, but it makes me happy that everything has its place. I find the sorting out and organising really fun so I encourage you to get your tools and notions in order. Read on to find some storage solutions, you might also find the space for something new.
Storage Solutions
Pouches, cases and tins, the perfect selection of storage solutions for your knitting and crochet notions and tools.
Thread and Maple Leather Notions Zip – This new leather case from Thread and Maple is currently up for pre-order before it arrives in the shop in May. Thread and Maple are known for their gorgeously made leather accessories from the softest quality leather. Made from velvety soft ‘crazy horse leather’ which is a premium full grain cowhide leather, used in saddle making. The leather is rubbed and waxed so over time and with use it builds up a wonderful patina. Measuring: L – 19cm, W – 13cm, D – 4.5cm.
Plystre Mini Clutch – I really like these simple cotton canvas cases as they fit easily into other bags and great for packing up with some essentials that you need for a specific project. Measuring: H – 14cm, L – 19cm
Twig and Horn Notions Tin – This little tin is made for notions and it says so! With a wool inlay on the base which keeps all you precious stitch markers and pins in perfect condition. Also great for the odd button or pin that you don’t quite know where to put, but will be useful one day. They also come in different colours that match other Twig and Horn products. Measuring 6.3cm in diameter and 2.3cm high.
Cocoknits Accessory Roll – This little accessory roll is like a Tardis, you can fit a surprising amount in it. With four removable compartments that are conveniently held in a roll with an elastic band. Great for categorising different tools. Measuring: Outer – 16.5cm / 6.5in (L) x 6.3cm / 2.5in (W) x 6.3cm / 2.5in (D); Pouches – 14.5cm / 5.75in (L) x 4.5cm / 1.75in (W) x 2.5cm / 1in (D).
New Notions
Missing something in your collection of tools, you can never have enough of these useful knitting and crochet gadgets.
Twig and Horn Removable Stitch Markers – I find these the most useful stitch marker type out there. They can slip on your needle or can be moved and clipped into your work. Perfect for marking increases and they won’t fall off. Plus they come in the cutest little jar with a cork lid. Contains 25 Stitch markers.
Cocoknits Yarn Snip – Am I guilty of having a little pair of scissors in every project bag, maybe! I can’t get enough of useful little scissors and they are so handy. I love the rustic forged metal steel sheep shear aesthetic of these ones. Measuring 10cm.
Hey Mama Wolf Wool Soap – I love these little soaps not only because they are great for washing your knitwear but because they smell great. I keep mine wrapped up in my notions pouch and I love the smell when I open it up. I also hope that it might be helping to deter moths from settling in the dark corners of my bag.
Thread and Maple On the Go – This neat little case combines storage and tools. Keep those handy bits and pieces all in one place. Made from durable leather with a magnetic closure. It contains two darning needles, 15 ring stitch markers and a little pair of scissors. All in a compact case that measures 9cm x 6.5cm closed.
