Laine is back and with a brand new look! Laine 15 has had a contemporary new redesign but still keeps the Laine aesthetic that we have come to love. Representing modern knitwear in a stylish and approachable way.
Laine 15 has the theme of Road Trip and inside you will find twelve designs by eleven designers: Jenny Ansah, Jennifer Brou, Weichien Chan (also known as the Petite Knitter), Štěpánka Drchalová, Meiju K-P, Bernice Lim (also known as Yamagara), Hanna Maciejewska, Terri Maue, Olga Putano, Florence Spurling and Yiğitcan Vatansever. As well as the usual articles and recipes there is a new regular feature: Jeanette Sloan Talks Fibre.
Adventitious by Olga Putano Designs. This lacey short sleeve top is a great layering piece or worn on its own for a spring style. Knit from the bottom up and in the round with charted instructions for the lace panel. I think G-uld No. 4 would work well for this.
Autumn Forager by Jennifer Brou. This textural jumper highlights the different stitches with bold stripes. Created by alternating mock ribbing and ruching to give a design full of impact. I like the way the different stitches have real structure which is shown by the shadows in the folds and ripples. Knit from the bottom up and in the round I would choose Stolen Stitches Nua or if I was feeling wild I would knit the stripes in a combination of The Fibre Co Cirro and Stolen Stitches Nua.
Briza by Štěpánka Drchalová. I love these quirky socks. The colourwork pattern is small enough to be easy to knit but still interesting to look at. The colourwork is given more depth by purling every other row in the diamonds. Knit top down with a heel flap and gusset. These are knit in a combination of Coop Knits Socks Yeah and another sock yarn. Of course they would look great done completely in Coop Knits Socks Yeah but you could pair it with Fibre Co Amble, Garthenor Snowdonia Sock or even Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply for different textural results
Crossing Pathways by Hanna Maciejewska. The dramatic cabling design on the front of this jumper is a real eye catcher. Paired with a modern relaxed shape it’s a really interesting design. Knit from the top down, initially starting flat and then joined to work in the round at the underarms. Knit in a sport weight I think John Arbon Yarnadelic would work well.
Faerie Dreams by Terri Maue. This delicate cardigan is very aptly named. Knit with two strands, one of them being a mohair silk, it’s light and delicate and fluffy. I love the little details of this design where the diamond lace panels line up with cables in the ribbing. The body is worked flat from the bottom up and the sleeves are then picked up and knit in the round from the body. I feel like this design needs a luxurious combination so Norne Yarn Fingering and Black Elephant Suri Cloud would be dreamy.
Ginger by Bernice Lim. This design is alive with texture and it’s kind of mesmerising. Knit from side to side and combining slip stitch honeycomb, diagonal weave and cable stitches. It certainly looks like an interesting to knit project. The design recommends a woolly yarn with a toothy grip so my mind instantly goes to Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk Tinde.
Hento by Meiju K-P. A simple jumper is a wardrobe staple and this brioche one is no exception. Worked from the top down and in the round to create a slightly oversized easy to wear garment. Knit holding two strands together, a classic pairing of Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply and Fyberspates Cumulus would be nice.
Hiemalis by Weichien Chan. This elaborate yoked jumper is created by working multiple colours over each row. A little concentration might be needed to knit it but after that its simple knitting ahead. Worked from the top down with easy ways of customising body and sleeve length. Knit in a sport weight yarn I would love to see a rich jewel like version knit in Stolen Stitches Nua.
Niitty by Jenny Ansah. This relaxed cardigan has a simple shape that focuses on the bold row of meadow inspired stitches along the hem and cuffs. The band is worked separately in double knitting and then sewn on at the end. Norne Yarn Merino / Silk / Yak DK or Fyberspates Vivacious DK would be my choices for this.
Noxolis by Yiğitcan Vatansever. This huge squishy brioche scarf is a stunner. Scarves are a great way to practice brioche and this one has various techniques which will make you a brioche master by the end of it. Divided into three sections, beginning with syncopated brioche to create the zig-zags followed by a brioche motif created with increases and decreases then finishing again with syncopated brioche. There are so many possibilities for yarn options for this Fyberspates Scrumptious 4ply would be luscious or for a woolier option the new Black Elephant Wensleydale.
Seren Hat and Shawl by Florence Spurling. These two are designed as a matching pair, both featuring colourwork and textural slipped stitches. The hat is worked in the round from the bottom up and finished with a pompom. The shawl is worked in pieces starting with the middle panel. The side panels are picked up from the middle and worked out. The softness of Garthenor Preseli would make these two lovely to wear.
