I’m thinking about hats (again)

I think it must have something to do with the change of seasons and the nights drawing in. There is a chill in the air, the weather is miserable. But it’s this time of year I start to think about knitting myself a new hat. Hats are fun to knit. Unlike some more ambitious projects it’s a realistic expectation to think they might be finished within the season they would be most useful. So what’s be going on in the world of hat knitting since my last hat post a year ago.

I’ve pulled out four hat patterns that have caught my eye along with some yarn suggestions from Knit With Attitude.

BBK Fisherman Hat by Louis Boria

This hat is the epitome of cool. With a modern short fitted beanie look and a generous rib. It’s the perfect hat for a fashion conscious look. Knit in a worsted weight I would try The Fibre Co Cumbria Worsted for a soft and cosy hat.

The gentle all over texture and relaxed fit of this hat make it a great all rounder. Knit with slip stitches you have the option to knit in one colour or slip in some contrast colour details. The large neat twisted rib brim can be folded up or down. Knit in a DK weight I would try Fyberspates Vivacious DK.

Sirita Hat by Marina Skua

I test knit this hat for Marina during the summer and really enjoyed it so have included it in this hat selection. It’s a crazy combination of colourwork, reverse stocking stitch texture and stripes. Knit from the top up with the option of a double thick brim. Great for little leftovers of DK or 4ply held double. My version is below and I knit with a combination of Fyberspates Vivacious DK, Coopknits Socks Yeah DK and John Arbon Knit by Numbers DK to name a few.

November Beanie by Ane Fiskum Sunde

This hat may look simple but it also looks oh so warm and cosy. A large brim with a simple stocking stitch shape. The thing that drew me to this design is the fuzzy edition of a mohair. How inviting does that sound? I would choose two complimentary colours of Socks Yeah 4ply and Fyberspates Cumulus held together.
