Time For a New Project – Knitting with Cumulus & …

Cumulus is one of my favourite fuzzy yarns we have in the shop and we have expanded the range. With a great selection of jewel like colours there has never been a better time to try out this yarn. Cumulus is wonderful just on its own but it is also great combined with a whole host of other yarns.

Cumulus is a 25g lace weight yarn of 74% brushed baby alpaca and 26% mulberry silk. It’s a great alternative to popular kid mohair and silk blends. This machine dyed yarn provides great value for money for those looking to add that fluffy mohair look to their projects. It’s amazingly smooth and soft and has a delicate sheen and doesn’t tickle. It can be knit over a wide range of needle sizes and is perfect for those projects where yarns are held double.

I have taken a look and found some great projects using a fluffy lace weight yarn paired with another. Look below for some fun fluffy suggestions.

Enchantée by Emilie Luis. This pattern like its name is enchanting. A bold all over lace pattern over the front and back. Its simple shape allows the lace pattern to really shine. Knit by holding a DK weight yarn with a mohair lace I think a combination of Kettle Yarn Islington DK and Cumulus would be dreamy. Pictured below are colours Peony and Natural.

Iris hat by Sari Nordlund. who wouldn’t want a fluffy hug of a hat during the colder months. Knitted top down in rib and with a generous folded brim, this hat will become a firm favourite. A combination of variegated Black Elephant Merino Singles and Cumulus would be perfect. Picture below are Harvest Moon and Camel.

Extra Texture by Stephen West. This fun oversized jumper is full of texture. Waves of cables run over this dramatic design, framed by twisted rib sleeves. A good structural yarn is ideal for this and I like the idea of pairing the rustic with the fluffy. How about Hillesvåg Tinde and Cumulus. Colours below are Mørk Rosa and Magenta.

Love Note by tincanknits. This popular pattern from Tin Can Knits features a lovely lace yoke. A simple shape heightened by the yarn choice and leafy lace details. Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply with its variegated palette would look lovely paired with Cumulus. Below are Tweed Imps and Indigo.

Suska’s Socks by Andrea Mowry. Fluffy socks are a must for cosy evenings and these simple but pretty pair combine plastic free non superwash yarns. Try pairing a worsted spun yarn with a high twist for strength. Like John Arbon Devonia 4ply with Cumulus. The colours below are Nightshade and Gloaming.

image – Wool & Pine

Sorrel by Wool & Pine. This stunner of a design features a yoke of textural linear dip stitches on a background of reverse stockinette. I love how hand dyed yarn looks in reverse stockinette. What’s more is you can fade through your stash. The crisp definition of Hedgehog Fibres Twist Sock paired with Cumulus would be great. Below are colours DRK and Moss.

Elton by Joji Locatelli. Stripes of a lace weight and a 4ply make this a fun and airy cardigan. A relaxed boxy fit that is made for playing with colour. Try a luxurious combination of Norne Yarn Merino / Yak / Silk Singles and Cumulus. Colours below are Fimbulwinter and Sea Green.
