Whoa, that was a quick one! My pouf is finished and it took me about two evenings to complete it, and I have to say I’m absolutely in love with this Jersey be Good yarn…eh…strips…eh…stuff. I’m pretty pleased with my just-start-and-see-what-happens design as well.
The pouf that I have made, in addition to being a cool and comfortable accessory for any living room, is also meant to be used as storage for spare duvets. There is plenty of room,
this one contains one single bed duvet and two medium sized cushions. To access the duvets easily when needed I’ve made this pouf with an opening. If you’d rather fill your pouf with old shredded clothes or just don’t bother with an opening, the pattern also explains how to make a closed pouf.
It is a few years since I’ve properly written a pattern, and although this is an incredibly easy one, I do feel a bit rusty so please let me know if you spot any mistakes. The yarn used is a crochet hook 10mm and 4 cones of Jersey be Good, 2 in each colour. Jersey be Good is an upcycled, eco-friendly product made of selvedge from the thriving textile industry. Please note that this pattern is written in
UK English, BUT I’ve made a crochet term conversion chart that translates between
UK English, US English and of course Norwegian, which you can find over here. This is a super easy project that you easily can do if you are a beginner, still it should contain enough action to keep the more experienced crocheter entertained as well.
Techniques used in this pattern:
Magic loop
Slip stitch (sl st)
chain stitch (ch st)
Double crochet (dc)
increase double crochet (inc dc)
decrease double crochet (dec dc)
Note on decreasing:
Normally when doing a dc dec you put your hook through next stitch, yarn over and pull the loop through, and again the same in next stitch before you do a yarn over and pull through all three loops on your hook. However, for the pouf I changed this a bit as I think it looks neater. So the dc dec used in this pattern is; put your hook through next stitch, yarn over and pull the loop through, and again do the same in next stitch, then pull this loop through the other two loops on your hook, skipping the last yarn over you would usually do.

45th round: 1 ch st, sl st every st, close
Cut yarn, pull the end through the last stitch and weave in the ends.
Now make the covering lid to put inside the opening:
With colour B, make magic loop starting with one ch st, 5dc in magic loop, close the ring of stitches with sl st around 1st ch st.
You start every round with one ch st that counts as the 1st stitch in each round, every round is closed with a sl st around the 1st stitch.

Cut yarn, pull the end through the last stitch and weave in the ends.
All done, now all you have to do is fill the pouf and start using it!
If you prefer a closed pouf continue as follows:
Before working the last few rounds fill your pouf. Make sure it is fully stuffed in a round shape, try to avoid large air pockets and tighter stuffed lumps of fill, stuff the pouf as evenly as possible.
Now close the pouf:
45th round: 1 ch st, 2 dc, dec dc, *3 dc, dec dc*, repeat from * to * five more times, close
46th round: 1 ch st, dc, dec dc, *2 dc, dec dc*, repeat from * to * five more times, close
46th round: 1 ch st, dec dc, *dc, dec dc*, repeat from * to * five more times, close
47th round: *dec dc*, repeat from * to * five more times, close
Cut yarn, weave end through last 6 sts and pull to close tightly, then weave in the end.
All done, now all you have to do is start using it!
