October equals Socktober! It’s not just a play on words but an embrace of the season. Autumn is here and we are reaching for our knitwear. That includes our knitted socks. Be prepared to cast on some socks!

If you are looking for sock yarn than look no further than these suggestions:

Socks Yeah! – Socks Yeah has been developed by sock designer Rachel Coopey. A reliable merino and nylon blend in a range of fun and funky colours. It also comes in DK.

Garthenor Snowdonia Sock – Garthenor have created a sturdy all British organic sock yarn which is all blended from stunning natural shades.

Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply – This high twist 100% Superwash Merino is strong, durable and soft.

Fyberspates Vivacious DK – The DK version of Vivacious has the same qualities as the 4ply with the same range of gorgeous variegated colours.
There are so many socks out there it’s hard to find just one pair to knit! Let me give you a helping hand with some suggestion below. Also if you have any favourites you have knitted before I would love some recommendations.

Rye sock (link to designers website) by tincanknits. I had to start with these ones as they are a great go to beginner sock. If you have never knitted socks before Tin Can Knits have created a clear and informative pattern which will help you through the whole process.
Weekend Shorty Socks (link to designers website) by Summer Lee. This cute simple pair of socks with cuffs that sit just above the heel for a short modern look. Great for stash busting. Knit from the top down with a feel flap and turn knit in different colours.

GRAMPS (link to Ravelry) socks by Tania Barley. I really like the graphic slip stitch pattern these socks have. By using two colours the vertical lines are created by slipping the main colour. This has created really pleasing graphic lines where the stitches increase at the heel.
Bewitched sock set (link to Ravelry) by Stone Knits. I couldn’t do a sock post in October without featuring something spooky! Stone Knits have some really fun colourwork sock patterns and these are no exception. Knit from the top down starting with a colourwork section and then moving on to a heel flap and gusset. To finish the foot is knit in simple stocking stitch.

Rib It Socks (Kite Heel) (link to designers website) by Celine Feyten. These socks feature a kite heel. This new to me heel construction looks really pretty. It promises great fit, no stitches to pick up and only a small bit worked flat. The sock is knit in an all over ribbed texture from the cuff down.
One Love Socks (link to Ravelry) by DUCATHI. These fun socks start with a 3D rainbow motif around the cuff. Including different colours as well as a 3D element is a nice way of incorporating the rainbow. The foot of the sock features a simple piqué pattern.

Color Palette Socks (link to Ravelry) by Laura Moorats. I like this idea for scrap busting socks. Find one colour that unites them all to break up the stripes. The large bands are broken up by twisted rib which adds some texture. Knit from the cuff down with a heel flap and gusset construction.
Bear Paw Socks (link to designers website) by Andrea Mowry. These DK weight socks can either be knit with a single strand of DK or two strands of 4ply. Starting from the toe they work their way up to the cuff in a pleasingly simple rib design. They use a Fleegle heel construction which is another new technique for me. So many ways to do a heel, who knew!
