I’m continuing with my colour inspiration posts with the idea of not looking at a particular colour but having a particular theme to guide me. Next up in the series is Rainy Days. I was woken up the other night by a very loud thunderstorm that passed over us bringing heavy rain with it. After looking at a more romantic Sunrise and Sunset I thought I would look at the least loved weather but so essential. Rain can be grey with dark clouds and moody skies but you can also get some hopeful blues in the puddles reflecting the clear sky after a shower. Read on for some rainy colour inspiration.

I took this video above looking out of the shop door during a particularly heavy downpour. Even though it may not as desirable as a clear sunny day there is a lot of inspiration in rain. It can be heavy or light and wispy reflecting the colours of its surroundings from concrete grey to pale sky.

I am imaging light a drifty projects made exploring spring rains or water droplets on a window. In 2021 I collaborated with Egidija Čiricaitė on this video project entitled Duet on Rain. It was part of an online book arts event and I mention it not only because of the rain theme but because I chose to use knitted elements to sit next to Egidija’s poetry. I knit free from lace panels with the idea they would represent water droplets. I would love to develop them into a larger project like a shawl.
