We are very exited to be exhibiting at Unravel at the end of February so I’m starting this series of blog posts having a look at what we are bringing along. Unravel is taking place at Farnham Maltings in Farnham over 24-26 February 2023. With over 70 other exhibitors Unravel is going to be great fun. We love catching up with fellow stall holders and familiar faces and the event always has a celebration feel. You can book tickets for the event on the Farnham Maltings Website.
We will be bringing a restocked selection of our favourite Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. One of Norway’s longest established wool producers, situated on the west coast of Norway, 35km north of Bergen. Founded in 1898 by Mikkel Myhr and family owned, being run by the same family for four generations. Now run today by his great-grandsons Øyvind and Arild and still operating where the mill was founded. Some of the machines that are being used are over 100 years old.
The Norsk Pelsullgarn range Blåne, Tinde and Sølje, is spun from fibre from the Norwegian pelssau breed. A norwegian peltwool fibre that is a cross breed between Gotland and the Norwegian heritage breed Spælsau. The wool is a natural grey colour with beautiful curl and shine. This grey fibre is then dyed to produce a great depth of rich colour with the grey running through it. The richness of the colour is this yarn’s great strength and it’s the perfect choice for colour work. The three weights are: Blåne an Aran, Tinde a DK and Sølje a 4ply.
All three weights of Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk are great for all sorts of projects and we have some great project inspiration for you.
Eventyr by Eli Leistad. This cosy colourwork jumper is knit in the heavier Blåne featuring a simple all over stranded colourwork repeat. Quick to knit and warm to wear Blåne is perfect if you are looking for chunkier garments or accessories.
Active Duty by Maxim Cyr. I knit this jumper in Tinde back in 2020 and I think I wear it the most of all the jumpers I have knit. I knew that Tinde would be great for this project. A classic DK weight that gives great results in colourwork projects. You can read more about it in this blog post: What George Knits – Active Duty Sweater by Maxim Cyr.
Sea Mist by George Cullen. I knit this version of my Sea Mist shawl in Sølje and Cumulus. I really like the combination of the woolly Sølje and the soft airy Cumulus. It takes two skeins of Sølje and two of Cumulus and we will be putting some kits together to bring to Unravel.
