Yarn Pairings for Laine Issue 14

It’s always an exciting time when the new issue of Laine Magazine arrives. But for this issue, it was made even more exciting because we got to see the samples when we had Sini and the Laine Issue 14 Trunk Show in the shop on 2nd May.

Issue 14 is inspired by the light Nordic summer nights – gentle, delicate and carefree. This issue is so light and airy it is sure to set you up for summer. Inside are 10 knitting patterns, interviews and articles as well as recipes. Designers featured in this issue: Pablo Aneiros, Isabella Clark, Evgeniya Dupliy, Lindsey Fowler, Katrine Hannibal, Anna Husemann, Ema Marinescu, Claudia Quintanilla, Maria Walters and Sylvia Watts-Cherry.

Let’s take a closer look at the designs inside as well as some yarn pairings from the shelves of Knit With Attitude.

Vespertine

Vespertine by Lindsey Fowler is a classic striped sweater but with layered textures. It gives an easy and flattering fit: casual with a split hem and relaxed sleeves. The textured stripes create the opportunity to play with colour. We think that the handdyed, slightly variegated shades of Fyberspates Vivacious DK will make this design shine, not to mention how comfy it will be to wear!

Solpor

Solpor Socks by Pablo Aneiros are knitted toe up using the Magic Loop Technique, but the pattern can be easily adapted to DPNs or shorter circular needles. The design features delicate lace over the foot and shaft, and incorporates an Afterthought Heel shaped with paired decreases on every other round. This design screams for bright colours, and we would definitely choose from the wide palette of CoopKnits Socks Yeah!

Lito

Lito by Maria Walters is a slightly cropped, boxy summer top, with fitted short sleeves. The design features a combination of the saddle shoulder and the drop shoulder shaping, the decorative elements include stranded colourwork and easy textured stripes. For this summer favourite to be, we would turn to the delicate G-uld No.4 yarns, beautifully naturally dyed in both soft pastels and more saturated colours.

Koselig

Koselig by Isabella Clark is as super-comfy as it looks, but by no means a boring design nor a boring knit. Stylish elements as the optional colourwork motif on the shoulders and Latvian Braids will keep your interest fuelled throughout this project. For us there could not be another choice than Stolen Stitches Nua Worsted for this design, the rustic but crisp look of this Wool/Yak/Linen blend is just perfect for Koselig – a match made in heaven!)

CC – 1 hank of Garthenor Preseli

Bea

Bea by Ema Marinescu is such a versatile piece knitted in squishy garter stitch featuring an interesting design detail where the collar overlaps at the front. We think that the fluffy wonderfulness that is the Fibre Co. Cirro, a brushed alpaca/wool mix bound together with a contrasting cotton core, will work brilliantly for this design.

Sommernacht

Sommernacht by Evgeniya Dupliy is a beautifully textured shawl in a generous size and with a crescent shape, just perfect to cover up just where needed on a chilly summer evening. It combines simple garter stitch with lace making it a soothing yet interesting project to work on. We would love to see this knitted in either a pure linen version like the Växbo Lingarn, or in a lustrous silk blend like the Norne Yarn Fingering in luxurious BFL/Cashmere/Silk.
Amounts needed are: 2 hanks of either.

Skagen

Skagen by Katrine Hannibal is one of those go-to pieces, a classic understated cardigan in a flattering fit, you know it will look good no matter what you throw on with it. It works just as well with jeans as with light summer dresses. Making this in the Hillesvåg Sølje will make for a summer dream come true!

Florencia

Florencia by Claudia Quintanilla is another must-have summer top, oh-so pretty, oh-so wearable! Worked bottom-up with raglan shaping, featuring a fun eyelet pattern, you will whip this little beauty up in no time. Again, there can’t be any other yarns more perfect for such lightweight tops than the wonderful G-uld No. 4, bound to give heaps of knitting pleasure!

Forming

Forming by Anna Husemann is a delightful scarf design! With a fun construction and an opportunity to properly play with colour, this is a project that never will ‘grow old’! Worked in one-colour brioche, it features colourful abstract shapes that are created by knitting increases and decreases, partially combined with the intarsia technique. For a super-soft and lush result, we would go for G-uld Alpaca!

CA – 1 hank, CB – 2 hanks, CC – 1 hank, CD – 1hank, CE – 1 hank

Funfetti

Funfetti by Sylvia Watts-Cherry is this summer’s staple piece, still so wearable and comfortable. This design features a simple 3-colour 6-row Slip Stitch Pattern, which means it can be done in no-time and in your favourite colour combo this is definitely one of those one-more-row-before-projects, you will not be able to put it down! The well-saturated colours of Hillesvåg Tinde will work magically for this jumper, also the yarn has such a grip it will make sure those ‘stripes’ truly pop!
