So we said we were looking at everything else but yarn, but how could we resist! This post though is dedicated to kits. Carefully curated bundles of yarn to complete a whole project. These are not just random skeins, but the whole project potential. Is there something a knitting friend has been dreaming of making but not had the yarn for? Let us take all the worrying about quantities, yarn types or colour combos out of your hands. Read on for some of our favourite kits.
Yarn Kit – Hapisk by Hélène Magnússon –
It is difficult to describe Hapisk by Hélène Magnússon without using emotional connotations, as this is a nurturing, soul-warming hug of a wrap – an embrace of all the woolly goodness in the world.
The design echoes the basic structure of the Shetland hap, with its stripes and shell-like lace border, but Hélène Magnússon also incorporates Icelandic and modern elements. While the central square harks back to Icelandic long shawls with its sequence of stripes, undulating lace, and crochet bind-off, the wrappable shape of this hap gives it a modern, wearable feel.
Made in the softest most light weight Icelanding yarns – Hélène Magnússon’s Gilitrutt Tvíband, we have come up with 5 colour options for you. The kit contains all the yarn you need to knit up your own woolly hug!
In addition you’ll need 4mm / US6 circular needles at least 100cm / 40in long, a spare needle and a crochet hook of simmilar size, stitch markers and a darning needle to complete your project. It is reccomended to use blocking wires when blocking the finished wrap.
Yarn Kit – Meadow Hat by Dee Hardwicke –
Another gorgeous design by Dee Hardwicke, inspired by and spurred on from the much loved Meadow Wrap, made in the wonderful yarns of John Arbon, what more could one wish for!
The inspiration behind Dee’s gorgeous Meadow stitch pattern is a meadow filled with wild flowers and grasses that Dee came across unexpectedly one day and couldn’t resist sketching. Dee describes the strong vertical lines in the design as having a contemporary energy, and the pattern has an intuitive, rhythmic quality that makes it so lovely to knit.
Knit in John Arbon 100% organically farmed Falklands Merino Knit by Numbers DK yarn. Dee describes knitting as being similar to painting in yarn, with each stitch becoming a brushstroke of colour. As Dee explains, ‘this John Arbon yarn is a dream to knit with, and as an artist I find the colour palette irresistible!’
The yarn kits contain 8 wonderful colours especially curated for you by us here at Knit with attitude, each provided in 25g hanks, 2 hanks for the colour also used in the brim – so 9 mini hanks in total. Aleks named these long wrist warmers after her grandmother who was a masterful knitter.
