The theme of Pom Pom issue 34 is ‘Home’ and is guest edited by Ocean Rose, artist and natural dyer: @ocean_bythesea on Instagram. During these unusual times the home has taken on many different guises, a work place, a sanctuary and one we may have found ourselves in for longer periods than we ever have. This is issue is unique as the models were asked to photograph themselves at home which has created a rich and unique issue. There is a personal touch with the photography that is as inviting as the knitwear inside.

I have done my usual yarn pairings for this issue and taken a look at each design in a little more detail. This issue is cosy and inviting, so find a comfy spot at home and read on.

Atlantica by Audrey Borrego. This gorgeous all over lacey top is knit in the round up to the sleeves. Fabulously over the top but still refined. A great project to get stuck into and create a rewarding finished project. The textural lace is repeated on the back as well for a complete textural delight. Knit holding two strands of lace weight, the earthy tones of Garthenor No.1 would look great, or for a colourful version try G-uld No.4.

Auralite by thepetiteknitter. This fun circular yoked jumper has a mirage like pattern that flows around the neck. I like the complex simplicity of this design, it gives a modern twist on the sometimes fussy yoked jumper. Knit double stranded with a DK and mohair lace for fluffy comfort. Try a pairing of Socks Yeah DK paired with a complementary Fyberspates Cumulus.

Celestite by Isabel Ale. Worked from the toe up these socks feature a textured diamond pattern. The reverse purl side texture of the diamond gives a fun 3D effect to the triangle motifs. Knit in gentle shades of a naturally dyed yarn try Hey Mama Wolf Sockyarn #04.

Chuska by Tressa Weidenaar. This strong graphic cowl is knit in a geometric colourwork design. Worked in the round with no more than two colours worked on a row. A great little project for those new to colourwork. Hillesvåg Tinde is one of the best colourwork yarns we stock.

Crossfade by A L Leong. This symmetrical triangle shawl looks simple to knit but cosy to wear. Extremely textural with elongated cables running along it. A structural yarn with great definition like Hey Mama Wolf Schafewolle #03 would be great.

Delphinus by Aurélie Tixier. This is the Autumnal/Winter jumper of dreams. Oversized and drapey for that cosy layer made for comfy days at home or chilly trips to the shops. I love the bold cables knit on large needles. Worked in the round from the bottom up and then separated at the underarm. Shoulders are picked up and shaped and then arms are knitted down to the cuffs. A pairing of The Fibre CO Cumbria and Fyberspates Cumulus with some nice matching colours would look lovely.

Naea by Malia Mae Joseph. I love the graphic use of cables in Malia’s design. Honeycomb and chevron cables are repeated along the entire length in a dynamic way. Knit by holding a mohair lace with a 4ply and finished with a mohair fringe. A gentle combination of some subtle speckled yarn would allow the pattern to shine. Try a combination of Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles and Hedgehog Fibres Kidsilk Lace.

Nestledown by Armenuhi Avanian. This simply shaped long tunic style jumper is knit from the top down. A high contrast colour neckline is worked in twisted rib in the round, moving down to deep raglan shaping and finishing with a split hem. A yarn with a comforting range of colours like the Fibre Co Lore would look nice.

Tortoiseshell by Sylvia Watts-Cherry. This stunning design features a bold colourwork design on the front. This project looks like addictive knitting, where you just want to see the design grow and grow. Front and backs are knitted separately and neckline and sleeves are knit in the round. A good toothy colourwork favourite like Hillesvåg Sølje would work perfectly.

Yuan Yue by Tiffany Wong. I loved this design as soon as I saw it and have kind of promised my boyfriend I will knit him one for keeping warm around the flat when he is working from home. Worked in pieces and seamed together the stripes are broken up with circular reverse stocking stitch motifs. Knit by holding two strands of Lopi Plötulopi which we will be restocking any time soon, so watch this space.
