If you haven’t noticed already we have had a massive explosion of Hedgehog Fibres in Knit With Attitude this week. Glorious tonal solids and crazy speckled skeins of Merino DK and Twist Sock are now hanging happily in the hand dyed corner of the shop. I have been particularly drawn to the Merino DK the past couple of days. It’s plump, it’s squishy and has the dreamiest depth of colour that has to be seen to be believed. I love them all!
Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK is a 115g skein of superwash merino. Sturdy but with an even, tightly twisted ply. Holds definition well but is super soft. The perfect yarn for garments worn next to the skin and ideal from head to toe.
When I start to fantasise over a yarn (which happens often here). I start to wonder what I could knit with it. So this ‘What to Knit?’ blog was born. Take a look below at some fun projects that make the most of those hand dyed beauty’s.
Happiness Cowl by Veera Välimäki. Hand dyed yarn loves the brioche stitch. Pair a speckled with a solid and watch them zing. Squishy brioche fabric is fun to knit but also a bit of a challenge, this sometimes intimidating technique is made manageable by choosing smaller projects like this cowl. Have fun with colour and choose three different skeins.
Beloved by tincanknits. Who says baby knits have to be boring. This is the cutest little speckled bonnet and perfect for partial skeins leftover from other projects. The soft merino wool is great next to a child’s skin and this easy care for yarn is ideal for the sometimes less than tidy little ones. It even goes up to adult sizes, matching bonnets anyone?
Ostinato by Leah Prestamo. Looking for a project that is a texture lovers dream to showcase the beautiful colours Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK. Then this shawl by Leah Prestamo is for you. The simple asymmetric triangle shape has sections of different colours for a fun entertaining knit in just three skeins of Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK.
DK Toe Up Brioche Socks by Lavanya Patricella. Yes Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK is good for socks as well. This pattern looks amazingly cosy. Toe up socks knit in brioche. Bliss for your feet.
Ziggity Slouch by Stephen West. This cute one skein project makes the most of your favourite colour. Slouchy style with a foldable brim gives you multiple ways to wear. All over knit, purl and yarn over texture adds a further interest to any DK yarn.
