Yarn Pairings for Laine Issue 29

Laine’s Summer 2026 issue is titled Damson and features an array of knitwear perfect for warmer weather. Lots of light breezy tops in an array of textures as well as a couple of lighter accessories.

Inside are fifteen knitting patterns: four sweaters, a cardigan, five t-shirts/tops, a dress, a pair of shorts, two shawls and a pair of socks. Designers featured in this issue are Pauline Fanguin, Joanna Filip, Saysha Greene, Kaori Katsurada, Marija Korać, Sarianna Lehtonen, Sara Markkula, Paula Narkiniemi, Sari Nordlund, Anne-Sophie Nørby Velling, Serena Qiu, Camille Romano, Lis Smith. Inside you will also find articles and more. So let’s take a closer look at the designs and I will recommend some yarns from the shelves of Knit With Attitude.

Camp Bandana by Lis Smith. Tiny shawls are having a moment and this two tone one with its all over texture is super sweet. Spring and summer are the perfect time for little scarves and shawls if you just need something to wrap around your neck on a windy day. I would keep this summery and light and knit it in Bettaknit Hemp Cotton.

Cerise by Joanna Filip. This textured jumper is knit from the top down, starting with the back and fronts and then joined to knit in the round. The simple lace stitch appears in bands both on the body and the sleeves on this relaxed drop shoulder construction. It’s knit in two strands of a 4ply wool. But I’m thinking why not just knit this in a strand of DK on its own. I would choose Hillesvåg Tinde.

Daya by Paula Narkiniemi. These shorts are accompanied by the Zen top to make a matching set. They are knit from the top down and are held in place by an elastic band at the waist. The stripe on the side is created using the intarsia technique for that slight sporty look. The split hems are folded for a neat edge. Something summery and soft for these I think Woven Beyond Allo Baby would be great.

Dori by Suvi Ala-Venna. This simple dress is loaded with comfort and meaning. Knit from the top down with raglan shaping and knit the entire length of the body with no shaping. The hem edges are finished with ribbing. A soft squishy Merino DK is called for here so I would choose Pickles Mjuk.

Hvede by Anne-Sophie Nørby Velling. This cabled and textured cardigan has a bit of a vintage vibe. The all over textures and the large puffy broken rib sleeves make for a cosy combo. Wide ribbing at the cuffs pulls the sleeves in. Knit from the bottom up in two strands of yarn held together. A fluffy lace and a 4ply wool. I think Pickles Pure Wool held with Fyberspates Cumulus would work.

Inkwell by Saysha Greene. Knit from the bottom up with an elegant diamond lace pattern that repeats over the whole body and sleeves. It is light an airy and knit in a wool blend for a summery feel. I would try this in Pickles Summerull, it might be a tad thicker than the yarn used but being a cotton/wool blend it is ideal for this type of garment.

Isabell by Sara Markkula. This light as air jumper is knit on big needles with a single strange of mohair. Brioche stitch makes the fabric super squishy. The wide airy sleeves and the v-neck add to the light quality. It has to be Fyberspates Cumulus for this, this brushed alpaca and silk is in my opinion softer than mohair.

Languid by Kaori Katsurada. This jumper is also light using a fluffy blown yarn. It also incorporates brioche stitch but this time a 2×1 brioche rib with creates wider bands of knit stitches. Knit for the top down with a deep round neckline. I would choose the Pickles Cozy.

Leija by Camille Romano. This polo shirt style top is knit from the top down and starts with the neat double knit collar. Simple armhole finishing and buttoned front opening create a summery look. It is knit in a heavier weight fluffy yarn so I would try Pickles Soft Fuzz.

Murano by Pauline Fanguin. Knitted from the bottom up this tank top features a pleasing undulating colourwork design that is cerated by increasing and decreasing in stranded colourwork. It creates a really crisp edge between the colours. Knit in a light 4ply I would try Coopknits Socks Yeah!

Shell Song by Sari Nordlund. This top down t-shirt has short sleeves and a bold all over lace pattern that runs down the front. It starts at the back neck and stitches are picked up from that for the front, this creates a nice fit along the shoulders. It’s knit in a wool and cotton blend but because of the colour I’m tempted to go for Bettaknit Love My Jeans.

Sirocco by Marija Korać. This wide lace top is made for summer days. The open lace repeat covers the entire garment. Knit from the bottom in the round and then flat from the underarms. This simple boxy shape is finished with a minimal rib at the armhole edges. knit in a wool and cotton blend. I would try the linen and wool blend of Stolen Stitches Nua Worsted.

Summertime by Sarianna Lehtonen. Starting from the toe these socks have a sweet wavy pattern that travels along the top of the foot and leg. Shorts rows create the heel and twisted rib finished off the cuff. Knit in a sport weight silk blend I think Fyberspates Scrumptious 4ply/Sport would create a really luxurious pair of socks. They might not have the robustness for long hikes but ideal for relaxing in at home.

Uru by ozuko. This little kerchief style shawl starts at the point and is knit to the widest edge. This way you can keep knitting to either you have used all your yarn or its a size that you like. Stripes and intarsia colour blocking makes this design a fun one to play with colour. Knit in a wool cotton blend try Pickles Sommerull.

Zen by Paula Narkiniemi. Zen is the top that matches the Daya shorts. A simple shape knit from the top down and also features the intarsia stripes along the side. If you are feeling matchy I would go for the same Woven Beyond Allo Baby as I recommended for the shorts.
